Weightless Wednesdays

I have been doing a little bit of research to help myself with my wieghtloss battle.
**3500 calories = 1lb. of weight. So, In theory if you eat or burn with exercise 3500 calories a week, you will loose 1lb. of weight a week....IN THEORY.
**Drink Water. Are you a water-holic? I am, or are you a soda-holic? If you are a soda-holic, consider switching one 12oz. soda a day for a bottle of water. One 12oz. soda contains 10 teaspoons of sugar. Water has no sugar. In one years time, that would cut 3,650 teaspoons of sugar from your diet! For a little number crunching.....3,650 teaspoons of sugar is equal to 59,495 calories which is equal to 17lbs. By swapping one soda a day for water, you would loose 17 lbs. a year!
**Remeber to take baby steps. You did not gain the weight over night, you will not loose it over night either.
**Consider joining Free Online Diet Plan at SparkPeople.com
I am a member there and it offers me all the tools I need to succed.

The diary of this School Bus Driver

For those of you who don't already know, I am a school bus driver, I have been for 8 years. Crazy...yeah I know, but I really do enjoy my job...on the good days. Personally I'd rather drive my bus Empty! (A little driver humor) Come on, you show me a job where you have weekends off, Holidays off, summers off (with "pay"), you can take your own children with you...so no need to pay for daycare, you are given your own personal office with a view...and it's mobile, and the pay is at least $15 an hour. If you can find a job with all those perks, we'll talk.
Now, by request...a school bus story. Foe all of you fellow drivers I hope this gives you a good laugh. While embarrassing, I did laugh. Just this past Friday, The school I drive for had a half day!! Yeah, a Friday with a half day just before a week long break. SO, I was asked to substitute drive a run after my run, and as usual, I agreed. Boy do I wish I had not agreed. So the afternoon started off as any other. And this is what I get for listening to the kids. I had the drivers' run sheet in front of me and I could not figure out exactly how the regular driver got from stop "A" to stop "B" so I asked the kids to help me out a little. They tell me to go up the road and drop off at the next left. No problem (out of order non the less but not a major issue). And then the gentleman proceeds to tell me to turn around in the field. Now, keep in mind that it had been pouring rain for 2 days, and a full size school bus empty weighs more than 20,000lbs. Am I painting a picture for you yet? Well, after some disagreeing with the student, I did see a stone patch in the field formed like a turn-around. While I thought better of it, the kids all swore this is what their driver does EVERY day. SO I go for it. All is well until I am about 20 feet from the road and half way through the turn and wouldn't you know...There I was stuck in a field....freshly spread with cow manure...on the side of the road. No matter what I did, I either slid or sank more into the mud. It was as if I drove right into quick sand. First, I was angry with myself for listening to the kids....but then I thought it was pretty funny. The mechanics that came to get me out of the field did not find any humor in it though. Lesson learned....DON'T LISTEN TO THE KIDS!

Please share your embarrassing stories!

Online Offer Update

Back in February I received a very exciting phone call from my sister Amanda (check out her Frugal Confessions blog here)She had just received a $1200 check for completing online offers. I still very skeptical, but I figured I would give it a shot I don't have much to loose. Well, after completing 8 offers, plus two others since two were not accepted...I checked my account status today and saw that my redemption certificate was received and credited! So...my $500 Kmart gift card is on it's way! Please visit Carrie's Blog Money Saving Methods to get the full scoop on online offers! The Great Clean-up~Day 1

OH what a dreary morning in SouthEast PA. I guess that is all the more reason to continue my spring cleaning journey. While the sun is shinning, it is cold again. Definitely not a garden day. SO on with the Great Spring Clean-up and Clean-Out.
*****************************
Day 1
I find the very first thing to do is gather inventory of all your cleaning supplies. If you prefer to clean "all natural" be sure to have plenty of vinegar, baking soda, and lemons on hand! If you prefer "chemical" supplies, be sure to have a variety of supplies!
Clean out every closet, cabinet, drawer, etc in your house. Dispose of anything you have not used or worn in the last year. You will be amazed at what you have cluttering your life. Don't just throw away usable items though. Consider having a yard sale. List it on Craig's List or Freecycle.org, or donate it to your local church or community outreach program. When it comes to your kitchen, if it is expired, get rid of it. Check out Good Housekeeping for 25 ideas to de-clutter.

See you tomorrow for Day 2 of the Great Clean-up
Happy Sorting!

Fresh Idea

April 22, 2009 is Earth Day! Throughtout the month I will be posting Earth Friendly ideas and projects. The first is fresh ideas for old things! Unfortunately, I haven't made the transition from buying water in bottles to using a filter on my tap. Why...I'm not sure. It would save a bit of money if I did. However, aside from recycling our plastic water bottles, I have thought of some fresh ideas to reuse the plastic bottles.

*Make bird feeders.
*Cut the top off and use for your chidren's paint cups
*Mini Greenhouses to start seeds
*Hummingbird Feeders
*Start sprouts. Eating sprouts are healthier then eating the full grown vegetables.
*Cut off the top and decorate it to make a flower vse
*Add sand and put the cap back on to make hand weights
*After you harvest your herbs from the herb garden, hang them to dry and then store in a closed, dry soda bottle.
*Fishing season is just around the corner. Use a bottle as a bait container! This one is for my husband!
*Refill with water and put the lid on, then freeze it for a ice pack in your cooler.
*Fill with warm water, wrap in a towel and use as a heat pack on sore muscles.

Please share your ideas!
